A little over a year has passed since I picked up my first Kayak. As I was scrolling through my phone just now, I came across a picture of my Bonafide SS127, sitting on top of my car, in front of Moving Waters Outfitters in Zionnsville, IN.You can imagine it didn’t take long for me to get it in the water. After years of competing in the front & back of a boat and following the rise of this Kayak Bass Fishing thing, I had finally made the decision to jump in head first.
Ive known from a very young age that I wanted to pursue fishing at the highest level. I remember making a promise to my best friends in high school that one day I would be “PRO.” Though I didn’t know what that even meant at that time, it was all I wanted. Now, after years of being immersed in this industry, I’m still trying fulfill that silly promise I made to my friends and myself. At that time, I thought my story would be one of “rising through the ranks” of the FLW via the BFL’s, Costas, and ultimately fishing professionally on the the FLW Tour. It’s funny how we always have this vision and a plan, but life somehow always disrupts it, tears it apart, and puts it back together in a way we could have never imagined.
It’s wasn’t long into my first attempt to “go pro,” that life hit me with one thing after another. In fact, I ran into so many road blocks that I stepped away from fishing all toghther. Fast forward a few years and I was in a totally different place in my life. I started picking up a rod & reel again, dusted of my tackle boxes and started hitting the banks of my local waters. Almost instantaneously the fire was lit again, stronger than before. I found myself dreaming again of fishing professionally- but this time, it looked a little different. This time, I was envisioning myself rising through the ranks of KBF in a plastic boat. I’m not sure where the fascination with Kayak fishing actually started, but I was infatuated with it.
Fast forward another year or so and I was still dreaming about hitting the tournamnet scene again, but for some reason I still hadn’t pulled a trigger on my first Kayak. If you were to ask me what the hold up was, I honestly wouldn’t have been able to tell you, however I can tell what triggered me to finally make that leap. ICAST is an event I’ve always followed, as an a angler I don’t know how you couldn’t, but this particular year was different. I was watching intently at what was going on in the kayak space. As I watched the coverage, I became very intrigued by a new player in the kayak manufacturing business. That company was Bonafide Kayaks. Something about the design and the hype around this boat instantly pulled me in. It was at that time that I made the decision that this was the kayak I was getting and it was time I finally chase my dream again. A few months went by, I had saved up a little money and was ready to make that first purchase at Moving Waters Outfitters.
Fast forward a little more than a year and here I am, doing this my way. Chasing my dreams and committing myself to this 110%. From working with some amazing brands, to hosting podcasts, fishing the KBF PRO TOUR, and helping other anglers find their way in the sport. I’m doing it and I’m loving it. The dream is now changing and evolving. I don’t know what tomorrow brings, but whatever it is, I’m ready for it and I can’t wait to look back on this time in 10 years. Heres to living your dreams!
